We are now on the third suppressor for our washing machine. The second one lasted only a month before it burned out. This second one had been fitted when the engineer fitting a new motor noticed that the original suppressor had been disconnected by a previous engineer. We’ve been told if this new suppressor (the third one for this machine) fails then we will need to get a new machine.

Does anyone know of an underlying fault which could cause the suppressor to fail?

    Thanks

itll be a bad connection on the plug to the suppressor

    hardly warrants a new machine!

    Thanks for the reply.

All the connections look secure. One of the spade connectors was burnt out but both have been replaced. The main supply to the suppressor also looks secure.

Before it burned out last time we noticed a burning smell. British Gas engineer checked it and couldn’t find problem. We used it again a couple of times before it went bang. Engineer then called out again and found that suppressor had burned out again.

What seems bit of coincidence is than a previous engineer (Hotpoint I think) had bypassed the suppressor rather than replacing it which makes nme think there is some other problem going in.

    Anything else I could check?

    Thanks

If the suppressor is burnt out, if the harness from the suppressor to the module is not changed also it will fail in a short time as it is normally a bad conection on the plug that causes it in the first place.
