We have been asked to check a hob install as the worktop is burning (see picture)
the hob has only been in a couple of months, we have found no burning inside the hob on wiring etc and the outside of the hob doesn’t get over hot.
we have said that it is likely that the damage was largely caused by the old hob but the customer is blaming the manufacture.

is there any thing anyone has used before that could be used a heat shielding to save the worktops having to be repleced?

    Thanks

    Re: burning worktops !

    Hi Alan

This is normally caused by the ethnic group where they leave the over sized pans on for hours and you’d find that the center of the sauce pan is beveled into the pans so it never actually touches the hotplate thus causing the hotplates to stay on as they are not sensing temp right across the plate.

exactly what I was thinking, and although I told the landlord this , the tenant is of course denying it

Its unlikely the hob under normal use would damage the worktop in this way without other indicators.

Pass it on to brand to sort and they can educate her.

Seen this quite a few times and Bryan got the answer spot on. Usually get called to hobs like this because two of the rings aren’t as hot as the others! Then trying to explain the lower wattage 😕

One thing i notice about fagor products, they made hobs with very large rings for the grand mothers to boil there Octupus for the required 5 hours, unlike the Balay/Bosch ones that would have the plastic base literally melted.
