    My dishwasher comes up with E4. I have removed the bottom and it was dry along with no leaking hoses. However, while disconnecting two hoses, I noticed something like brown gunk in one of the plastic containers. Do you think this has anything to do with it. the container cannot be opened to clean. Anyone with advice?

    That is the water softener (ion exchanger) you refer to. Ignore it, the brown colour are polystyrene sulphonate resin beads.

    Have you checked the anti flood switch in the base?
