Was thinking of A&L Martin, they couldnt be any worse than the the Abbey. I bank the odd cheque or 2 a month but its mostly paid in by bacs from the people i work for. My advice to anyone after whats happened to me is watch the Abbey, they went and put a fraid indicator on the account as someone had been trying to take money out but they never bothered to tell me, its only when i got letters through from companies that i set up DD did i know anything was wrong. I got a pathetic letter from Abbey saying it wasnt there policy to do this so how the f??k are you meant to know theres a problem with your account.

Dont go with the Royal Bank of Scotland either. I am also in the process of changing to the A+L. Total free banking for 2 years and then transfered onto a basic free banking account. Internet access as well plus you can use a post office to pay in. Great for me as the post office is next door 😀

Switched to A & L a year ago and no probs so far, Earn a bit of interest on the tax’s mans account, Only gripe is if you pay cheques in on a Monday as I do, Sometimes they won’t clear until the following Tuesday.

GeoffEveryone has different views with every bank.
I have been with Royal Bank of Scotland for over 12 years now and I can say they are brilliant. I can phone their branch and speak to the business manager. No call centres. No bull, no nothing.
It is what they say in their advert, You phone and speak to the local branch. NO CALL CENTRES.
My personal opinion ( and it is only my opinion) is that if you can speak to the same person everytime you call then they have a better idea of your business and if they are local then all the better. For all it is worth, people who struggle with their bank are usually people who are not sticking by the rulres.
I would recommend the Royal Bank of Scotland to anyone.(and hopefully if they read this I will get discount on my overdraft)

I agree euro Abbey are the worst bank out there changed my account 6 months ago.Thought I would try abbey so i set the account up and closed it after one week very poor comunication skills.Went to A&L great banking but it is £100 to set up a overdraft a little high but worth it.

Hi rolf,
Yes your right about poor communication from them, it took 3 phone calls to find out what the problem was with my account, the first two i spoke to said everything was fine but the third one told me what had happened. Surely when something has happened as serious as what did they should inform you but thats the abbey, watchdog had a few things to say about them earlier on in the week
Thanks

ParticipantIm with Abbey must admit when I opened the account there was a few issues but they got sorted fairly quickly been with them a year now and no problems.
Well only 1 problem when I order the prepaid envelopes for chq clearing centre in London always get bradford. So I end up ringing them o their call back service and its then sorted.
