Hi
I’m looking at a washing machine from a reputable company at a clearance place.
It has been knocked about a bit and has dents and scratches but is still being sold with a 12 month warranty. The problem is that it is advertised as having no transit bolts in place.What does it mean and whats the risks if I buy it?

That means the tub will rock around in the cabinet during transport.
The tub is the tank that houses the inner drum. The motor will be attached to it, as will multiple water hoses, electrical wiring and concrete blocks. This tub is on suspension for when the machine is spinning at high speeds. If the tub jumps around on it’s suspension too much during transport, it could smash/damage other components.
One solution is to enter the machine (power off of course) though the top or bottom, and wedge the drum with towels/polystrene, anything soft. But you need to be carefull with all the hoses and wires.

The trouble is, the washer is on a clearance site so I can’t ensure that it will be transported carefully.
Surely though, if it’s got warranty, it won’t work if damaged inside and I can return it? Or will it shorten life of machine?

I know it sounds dodgy doesn’t it? trouble is, i’m so desperate for a machine after my indeshit (sic) w103 light starting flashing 6 times. Not worth fixing that is it?

I’d recommend a friend/relative/neighbour/laundrette. Save up £300+ and buy a quality machine.
Once someone is in the vicous cycle of cheap desposable machines, it’s hard to break the cycle. Buy cheap, it breaks, it’s beyond economical repair, buy cheap, it breaks, it’s beyond economical repair, buy cheap, it breaks, it’s beyond economical repair. Break the cycle 8)

yeah, you’re right. Trouble is, Even when I do spend the money I can’t look after it for long (or have a dud one).
So back to the transit bolt thing. Conversely, If I buy a machine that is advertised as having the transit bolts still in place that’s ok?

Following on from this thread, how many people put the transit bolts back in their machines prior to moving house? I know mine may be difficult to find!

True but then, you can ensure that it is transported and moved carefully. I wouldn’t trust any old delivery guy to do this!

Out of the two I would go for the first one as I reckon the appliance was refused on delivery due to the cosmetic damage. I would guess this to be so as the transit bolts are fitted. the second one has no bolts, so either it has been used and then exchanged hence no bolts. Second case scenario damage was not noticed until after the removal of transit bolts. Your guess is as good as mine.
If it were me I would go with the first one, better be quick tho as bidding ends soon 😉
