ParticipantHi there,
I currently have a philips whirlpool oven which, although functional, is now tatty. It came with the flat so does not owe me anything.
I have seen the following models locally, prices ranging from just over 200€ to 400€ (about my budget limit):
CANDY FL-605 X
WHIRLPOOL AKP- 237X
TEKA HI- 6351X
SIEMENS HB-750540Note these are just ovens, the hob is separate.
I work mostly with brown goods (electronics) but know almost nothing of the merits of the white goods brands, so would appreciate technical advice.
My criteria include:
– ease /availability of spares (elements, etc),
– fan assisted oven
– good grill
– unlike the current oven I have, ease of cleaning – preferably ‘moulded ‘ inside i.e. no screwed-in rails etc., which trap grease. I’m not bothetred abotu ‘auto cleaning’, which seems wasteful of energy to me – no idea how accurate that is.
– not bothered about timer.I have also seen some with removable inner glass panels in the door , presumably to facilitate cleaning, whilst others seem far from straighforward – any thoughts on this?
so many questions….thanks for reading!

There is really not much to choose between the different makes with regard to reliability. Go for something with ordinary rotary controls rather than digital control, which can be expensive to repair. Spares availability is best with the more popular brands such as Zanussi, Electrolux, Hotpoint, Creda and Whirlpool. If you do a lot of grilling a double oven would be best if you have the space. There is one oven I’ve been to a couple of times which is so basic that there’s no indicator neon to tell when the oven has reached temperature. Make sure yours does have such a light or you will be guessing what temperature you have.

many thanks, that is useful advice. I also intend to have as close a look as possible at the units in-store, to try and see how robust they are and check insulation etc.
After repairing a couple of microwaves last year I am a bit wary of the digital controls – in both units, transformers on the control pcb had opened up (supplying low voltage AC) – one was easily replaced bit the other had some odd secondary windings, and proved extrememely hard to locate. So I’ll go for the simpler rotary type when it coems to the oven!

hotpoint sy51 (now only available in s/s i think) – its fan assisted which is what you asked for
doddle to repair, spares available for ages, and not particularly expensive if u know where to get them! Heats quickly for “fan assisted” and cooker is affordable too. and no unnecessary LCD rubbish to fail through heat-exposure!
alternatively go for a gorenje with a 5 year p&l warranty.
the siemens will suffer from the same common oven fault as everything else on the market – element failure! and siemens/bosch elements are not cheap!
Would steer away from whirlpool now too – just had to sell another fan element (oem) to a gent whos previous oem one lasted 8 months – on a 3 year old oven! It was 50 quids worth too, and whirlpool would only guarantee it for 3 months, unless it was fitted by one of their approved engineers, when it would be a year (+£90 labour/callout)!!!

Still not taken any decision, though I did take a look at a few over the summer.
This fagor 6H755X unit : http://www.elcorteingles.es/hogar/produ … 9&tpam=scc
seems to fit the criteria, having rotary controls etc.
The Zanussi ZOB 361X was tempting, as were HOTPOINT-ARISTON F89-GP1 X , having smooth inners and a fairly solid door. Also, EDESA ROMAN H150X and HV3X I have noted down, but can’t recall what attracted me. :rolls:
I’d be grateful to hear any comments or experiences on the above, good and bad. Availability/cost of spares I think would be my concern now, as price-wise there’s not much difference between them.
thanks again,

Hi there,
Another one to add to your list is the Cata EFM60SS multifunction oven which is stocked at B&Q. Fan assisted and no screws etc inside the cavity.
Big availability of spares and a 2 yr parts and labour manufacturer guarantee.
Price will be well within your budget.
Best regards,
Greaseater.

Taking Phildom’s advice on the rotary controls I ended up getting a FAGOR 6H185X, just fitted it now. The clock is digital but they all seem to be these days. It does not seem to be backlit LCD type, this has red digits like on many clock radios, which is probably for the best.
Thanks for all the responses. I’ll be back here if I need advice on spares or wahtever!
