I live in Southampton, and the water is quite hard here. When we bought our Bosch washing m/c a couple of years ago, I thought I’d get some Calgon to keep it sparkly clean!

Well, I assume it’s because the machine is c/w fill, but about 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time the tablet doesn’t dissolve properly, and leaves a lump in the drawer that has to be scraped out. We gave up after a dozen or so washes.

Can anyone recommend a powdered alternative? I thought about just chucking the tablet in the drum, but I suppose a concentrated dose of something acidic won’t do whatever it’s sitting on much good while the tablet dissolves…

As an alternative, I do run the m/c empty on a 90° every few months. Is there a suitable product to use periodically that’ll do a combination desludge and descale (1/2 a bottle of Kilrok & a cup of bleach, stand well back 😆 )

    Cheers,

    Simon

    Hi SiHa,

Have a read at this article which should explain a lot 😉

To clean the machine you can use Affresh as a cleaning routine and that should clear out anything that remains. This solves other issues to boot.

    Hi SiHa

There is loads of reading and advice to be had here, towards the bottom of the page there are four more links for even greater info. The last one about whiter whites and brighter colours is good read about powders which may help.

As far as the maintenance wash goes we recommend customers perform this on a monthly basis 😉

Thanks both for your replies. I’ve read all the advice linked to (and followed on with quite a few more) I have to say – the amount and quality of the information available on this site is really quite impressive. Funny I’ve never stumbled across it before this week.

Anywho – I think I’m fairly good at cleaning our machine, although I certainly don’t manage it every month, more like quarterly. Also, I’ve just refitted our kitchen, and the washer has now got it’s own standpipe.

The important point I’ve noted is that because we use exclusively a coloured detergent (Sainsburys), it won’t be much use for the maintenance wash. I reckon I’ll pick up a pack of Aeriel bio tablets for the whites and the maintenance wash in future.

And I’ll ditch the Calgon for good.

    Thanks again for the advice…

    Simon
