Hello everyone……a bit of tongue in cheek here but……
as we as engineers always get asked………”Shall I use Calgon??”
What do you say?….what is your opinion??

Why is a man in Blue overalls recommending something that could put him out of a job?

Why do some manufacturers recommend it knowing if it does work it could reduce the vicious circle of future sales and spare parts?

My opinion……Calgon only protects a third of the working parts, the expensive parts, motor, module etc are not, I work in one of the hardest water areas in the country and I only replace one element every 3 weeks.
Calgon is expensive and it will cost much less to get an engineer to replace the element after 5 years than protecting it!

    What do you think?

My opinion is very well known on the subject…

It’s a waste of space and I’ve not seen any independent engineer recommend yet so I’d love to know what ones do according to the claims made for it by Reckitt.

If my memory serves me correctly someone worked out that for a family with 3 kids it would cost in excess of £90 per year to use calgon everytime when washing.
As an engineer myself its not very often that I do change a a heater. Having said that when I have done bearing changes there is at times some serious brown/ grey gunge in some machines i’ve come across but thats down to cheap powder and low temp washes

I only ever recommend a hot 90/95 degree wash with soda crystals every month or so depending on use.

Doesn’t work – only a quality bio whites powder will do the job properly.
