I’ve recently had a few ansaphone messages when I get home asking me to ring them back and when I have they’ve said they rang elsewhere and got a call arranged. I’m with Plusnet for ‘phone and broadband so rang them for call divert quote. ยฃ2.50 per month and I can activate it when I leave home and deactivate it when I get back. Seems to me a real bargain and so flexible and even one call a month easily pays for it.
    I’m chuffed.
    Starts tomorrow.

    Re: Call Divert

would imagine you still have to pay the cost of the call from your number to the diverted phone. which assuming its a mobile, will add up.

actualy a free service with BT business aside from the call cost as above.

As I’m not on a business deal BT is the same call charge structure.
Looks like it is a universal system but will check out some others although being in the sticks some providers can’t connect here.

    Re: Call Divert

im with bt and you get charged as ringing to a mobile which does add up but you never miss a call. have always done this as round here new customers will just move on to next ad, well worth doing imo.

I,m with Virgin, they charge ยฃ1.50 per month plus call costs
Worth the money as the extra I pay is easily made up with just one call not lost. On the negative side, it can be a pain when you’re in the middle of a job and the phone won’t stop ringing. Always think of the cost when I miss one though ๐Ÿ™
I always advice my customers to ring me direct on the mobile for convenience (and less cost to me ๐Ÿ˜† )

    Re: Call Divert

I used call divert many years back onto my mobile and it was not only expensive but (as Toni mentioned) darned inconvenient a lot of the time. Especially cutting when the plethora of ‘cold callers’ bothered me whilst going about my daily work trying to sell advertising or some other purile excuse to sell me something. :rolls:

After realising the cost and above all, inconvenience of all this I then re-recorded my home answering machine. The affective result of my recorded message was such that to this day 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of customers now redial me on my mobile (at their expense I hasten to add not mine!) the remaining either leave a message for me to pick up when I get back home or don’t bother and call someone else. The minimal amount from all that who should perhaps phone a competitor is of little or no significance overall to me and my business. But the major benefit I get from my answering machine system is that those that do phone me are for the most part customers and not cold callers.

Furthermore the call divert system can and does work very well I must admit. I wouldn’t wish to argue those that support the whole concept and well for you. You can even ‘factor in’ the additional expense and inconvenience of having to take time wasters and cold callers ’tis true and no doubt pass that cost onto your good customers, fair enough! But honest to god I got sick and tired of the mass of calls I got (on a Monday morning especially) whilst I’m trying to wrestle with a stacked tumble dryer or round the back of a washer trying to unhook the fill hoses in order to get the machine out…..sod that for a game of soldiers was my reaction!

Nowadays even with my mobile phone auto-switched to voicemail, whenever I’m not in a position to answer it that is, I know that when I do call them back I have at least a customer and more business as a result and not some time waster that’s cost me money! The most effective (and cheap) call filter you could ever wish for!

Martin, just out of interest, how do you know its 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}?

    Re: Call Divert

I think in the 14 yrs of having my mobile the number of cold calls would be less than 30 and with the bluetooth stuck to my ear all day long the inconvenience of ‘phonecalls is minimal. Press the button to answer and keep on working and again to end. It’s the best bit of kit ยฃ for ยฃ in a long time except when an old dear shouts ” what’s that in your ear” because she thinks it’s a hearing aid ๐Ÿ˜†

    Re: Call Divert

Thanks Martin. Thats interesting, food for thought.

My concern is that with my call diversion the customer gets a message saying….’please hold the line your call is being diverted.’
I’ve always wondered how many people hear this and hang up before it connects to my mobile.

    Re: Call Divert

bt give you the option to switch that message off, if you divert it goes straight to a ringing tone, if you divert when busy or unanswered it rings home phone then theres a pause and it rings mobile

    Re: Call Divert

When I first started using call divert about seven years ago. I found that there was a good 7 second pause before you get a ringing tone.

This is when I asked BT to put a message on, to let people know something is happening. I thought the 7 seconds of silence was enough to make people hang up.

Does anyone else experience that sort of silence before connecting?
