I know a number of you guys use the *21* call forwarding service to get calls on your mobile and, I know only too well how expensive it can be.

Well I was doing some research on what’s called Premicells for our own use here to get cheaper calls to mobile numbers off the local PBX and found this:

    Burnside T940L GSM Gateway Premicell

For the non-techy explanation, you put in a cheap mobile SIM card and it then routes your inbound calls to your mobile. Use the SIM in the unit on the same network as your phone is on and this will likely then not cost you a penny.

Big saving for many I expect. 😉

It gets better though. You can route all outbound calls from your normal landline through this as well which can save a bucket of money on calling people back that are on mobiles.

Just don’t use Orange, Hutchison Telecom as it doesn’t work on their network apparently.

    Hope it’s of use.

    Re: Call Forwarding

Take a look at O2 land line offer. Transfer your BT line rental to O2 and it seems you get 2000 mins of calls to any O2 number per month. Line rental is £13.50 per month plus 50p for call divert. They tell me that all calls diverted to your own O2 mobile number will come out of the 2000 free mins. Am I missing something?

    Re: Call Forwarding

Yeah I was talking to Simon, the guy running that auction who is very helpful BTW, and he did say that if all you do is call out then the O2 landline is probably the best option as the call cost gets down to 1.5p to a mobile.

But, if you want to divert from the landline to a mobile and you do enough of it then a Premicell may be cheaper in the long run or more convienent depending on the requirement. At 50p a call it’s 900 calls and the unit is paid for.

Yes, the calls should be free to your O2 phone but a PAYG SIM in it also gets free calls to another network phone for most of them.

Depends what you want or need really.

    Re: Call Forwarding

used premicells for years and found it very usefull piece of equipment, it even gave me a extra line so i had a fax in the van, not much use for a fax these days but 4 years ago it was a must.

still have 2 of the old type kicking about but still in working order, the telular one was a whooping 20watts output and worked where other mobile phones never had a signal.

thanks for bringing back the memories Ken, i must google to see what the new models have to offer.

    Re: Call Forwarding

I’m not sure if it helps anyone, two things that really drove a load of business for me, and saved me a fortune on *21* costs, were adding callback and online booking to my website.

It works really well for me because about 2/3 of my customers are returns/recommends, who call me direct on my mobile anyway, but all the rest are through the website having searched on Google, as I don’t advertise or pay YP at all.

Basically, if they ask for a callback it’s set up to text me – costs less than 5p a text (cheaper than just the BT connection fee) and sends a SMS to my mobile with the number – I just click the number and press call – customer is delighted cause they get a ring within 30 secs of entering their number as long as I’m not busy, plus costs me nothing to call them using my mobile contract minutes. Took an hour or so to sort out how to do the script, anyone who wants a copy please let me know.

Online booking I paid for the script, cost me £40 but well worth it as letting agents LOVE it as no more messing around between me, them and the tenant – they call tenant and book a time straight away, nothing for me to do, I just get a text with name/address/phone number, costs me 5p, straight into the TomTom and away. Tenant jobs are dead easy so couldn’t be simpler.

Obviously there are some provisos – online booking only works well for me because almost all my calls are within 5 miles of each other, would be costing a fortune in petrol otherwise. Also need to pay attention, if it’s something complicated like bearings I book the next appointment off as well, or take the machine back to my workshop if no space. Finally, I suspect it only works well where most of your new leads come from online – got a mate in Portsmouth who found he was getting nothing from it because most of his customers don’t have computers.

Both are on the right hand side of my website – http://www.oxforddomestic.com Hope it helps someone.

    Re: Call Forwarding

Odom, one of the best websites I have seen

Very clear and readable, well laid out.

you could improve local search results by having your name/address/location on every page. Remember google treats every page as a stand alone entity so local results will be improved if every page appeals to local search enquires.

Getting back on topic, has anyone found a reliable but cheaper alternative to the Burnside T940L GSM Gateway Premicell which is currently advertised on ebay for £449?

    Re: Call Forwarding

I’m interested in the system but found them about 70 quid cheaper just googling the model. From the spec they sound the same.

    Re: Call Forwarding

Hi guys iv solved this one after years of frustration with mobile divert costs.

    1.get BT business land line.

    2. get on ONE PLAN PLUS tariff

    3. opt for BT mobile telephone(about £50 month thats with a blackberry and about 500 free min plus unlimited text and internet)

4.bingo. all calls diverted to BT mobile telephone from BT landline are now:

    FREE!!!!!!! YIPPY!!!!!!!!

iv cut my bill in more than half. 😀 😀 😀 😀

    im sure this will help
