ParticipantMy name is Heli and I am in the midde of moving house 😯
It’s already pretty stressful and today my washing machine has stopped working! 😥The drum is not moving at all. Otherwise it seems to be doing everything correctly – the powder is taken through, the water is warm, it is draining ok (of course everything is very wet when it comes out because it’s not spinning), but it’s certainly not full of water. It is clearly TRYING to move, it sounds like it is working (but slightly more high-pitched), but then you look at it and everything’s just sitting there.
Can anyone tell me what’s wrong?? I was going to move it tomorrow…
I am quite willing to get in there and try to fix it if there is anything I can do.I would be ever so grateful for some advice
Thanks :¬)
Helip.s. It is an Ariston Margherita A1535 Advantage

I am quite willing to get in there and try to fix it if there is anything I can do.The most common cause of this is that the motor brushes may need replacing. But, as it’s an Ariston anything could leave rise to the same symptoms I’m afraid. 🙁
Remember to pull the plug if you intend looking for the fault yourself otherwise if you need expert help then click on the link below. 😉

ParticipantThanks for the quick reply!
Ok, so basically, and it should be said I am fairly uninformed and not especially technically minded, you’re saying it could be any one of a number of things and the chances are I will have no idea what is wrong if I look in there, right?
🙁
As I feared. Are there any simple things I could check that might cause this problem? Only I don’t think I am up to replacing motor brushes.
Or possibly even locating them. Thanks either way

Well maybe one line of thought is that the drive belt may have broken? Power off, back panel off and check see if the belt is connected between the motor and the big drum pulley? Worth a look Heli…. 😉

ParticipantWell!
I think I have been rather lucky. We pulled the machine out, took out the pipes etc. so we could get to the back of it (all good practice for moving it and re-installing), and had a look inside:
The belt had simply slipped off and was lounging around in the bottom! So we popped it back on and things seem to be going pretty well now. Spin cycles and everything.
Thanks for all your advice, I probably wouldn’t have opened it up if you hadn’t been so unflinching at the suggestion 😀
