    Hello,

I’m new here and wondering whether anyone can help me re. my dishwasher. I had someone out to repair it last week, and they said the PCB has broken. They are ordering one, but have quoted £200 (including VAT) for the part. I have already paid £59 for the call out. It sounds like a lot of money and I’m wondering whether I’m better off buying a new one. I’ve found a pcb timer online for £120, but I’m not sure if a pcb timer is the same thing as a pcb…. Are they ripping me off? I’m tempted to buy the part and try and repair it myself!

Any advice or information would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Tina

Yes it is….in the days of yore, the control mechanism was basically an electric timer. These days electronics (Printed Circuit Boards) do the job instead but the name ‘timer’ has been in use for so long it’s still used quite often.

As to whether the machine is worth repairing, well that can be a subjective thing but even just financially you have to weigh up things like the cost of the repair, age of the machine, how much wear and tear it already has, the quality of the product and therefore it’s likely agespan, the ease of service etc, the cost of a replacement machine with the equivalent/cheaper/more expensive etc.

As you have found out, Smeg are not the cheapest to repair but against that they are not cheaply made compared to most IMO. They do suffer the odd breakdown now and again but then what machines don’t?

    HTH?
