ParticipantWas wondering if any of you clever people could identify this spin dryer and more importantly know if parts are still available for it?

ModeratorIt’s a very old Hotpoint dryer, some also sold as Creda. Chances of any spares now virtually nil unfortunately. Possibly a model 1005 or 1006 but that information should be on the small rating plate on the back near the bottom of the spin dryer.

Pity there’s not much chance of spare parts, was of the mind that older appliances were generally better quality than nowadays. Unfortunately it would seem the plate is missing, not surprising considering it’s pretty old. Maybe money is better spent on one of those plush looking Umelome spinners.
Thanks for the info.

ModeratorA very well made, ultra reliable little dryer. The market for single spin dryers dried up in the early 70’s when a tranche of safety features on all appliances came into law. Mainly interlocks on spinners, twin tub spinners and all automatic washing machines. The old wringer machines could not meet the safety standards so were effectively banned from being produced. As the main market for single spinners was from people with old style wringer machines the single spinner market shrank to very small numbers. Is it not working?

ParticipantThere’s nothing actually wrong with the machine, I was thinking more worst case and what if… Was thinking of getting it insured with DOMGEN. Not sure if they could source parts or just end up replacing it? Did have a White Knight some months back which ended up at recycling because the motor gave out and a replacement couldn’t be found. Trying to avoid a repeat. On the plus, good to know they are reliable. Piece of string question but what would be a fair price based on the pics do you think.

ModeratorVery few mechanical problems, brake cable adjustment/replacement needed occasionally and the rubber motor mountings can break but no other major faults. Surprised anyone would insure at that age. Cannot tell without seeing the rating plate but it’s got be the wrong side of 30 years old. Impossible to value without knowing if it is before or after interlocks where compulsory. The Antiques Roadshow would be the place to go.:D

ModeratorIs this spinner for sale? You could ask the vendor if when the lid is opened does the drum stop rotating after a couple of seconds or is there a few moment’s delay from operating the lid catch and being able to open the lid.

ParticipantWell that didn’t go to plan! Seller reconsidered it’s value and plonked another £85 on the asking price. This COL nonsense really has made prices go nuts.
If anyone by chance knows who manufactures Umelome products that might be the way to go what with warranty etc…
Thanks for your help iadom.

ModeratorI wouldn’t give more than £15.00 for an old spin dryer of that age, it probably cost less than £75 brand new. Never heard of Umelone but for many years now most stand alone spin dryers have been cheap Chinese imports.

ParticipantDifficult to find info on Umelone spin dryers but they flog them via Amazon 6kg at £242 gravity drain and looks very much like one of the last produced Credas. At a guess via the way blurb been translated into English I`d say made in China or India. There is another brand called YXCKG of which I recognize the plastic body as being Chinese on sale ( basically half a twin tub ) at the supreme rip off price @ £616. I do admire a good sense of humour!
