The Dixon’s course is a good basic starter that’s for sure but ultimately one has to ask why you would wish just choose such a career in an industry that is in decline? 😕

i was not aware it was in such decline, i am looking for a change of career and i know a couple of guys doing domestic white goods repairs and both are doing ok and making a decent living.
what would you suggest the next step would be after the dixons course, is there any further courses you can recomend to give a bit more confidence before going out on charging jobs?May 12, 2009 at 3:35 pm #286137Martin

It’s not something that is included in any training course but a fact nonetheless.
On a brighter note, have a word with the two guys you know that are already in the trade as to the local needs in your area as many vary greatly. Sheffield in Yorkshire apparently trade is pretty dire, whereas in Leeds, just up the road, word has it, business is booming! 😀
British Gas are always in need of new recruits for white goods repairs and have their own training facilities I believe. Many independents also take on trainees but again are few and far between these days.
All the best whatever direction you take….! 😀

Hi , i fancied a change of direction so took graham Dixons 10 day course last April. Really enjoyable , a good mix of lads in the trade and `newbies` like myself . It`ll give you a decent grounding in what to expect and a sound /SAFE knowledge of the electrical side of things . The only downside is its in Hull ….. :rolls: 😆 😆
I`m still employed in print and took the course as a `plan B` as printing is all i`ve done since school AND …. I may be relocating to London ..
Since the course i`m helping out a recycling centre in Leeds on my days off shift , mostly bearing work but you certainly learn how to strip and rebuild a machine , something we only did once on the course but i find quite enjoyable in a bizzare kind of way …… 😯
Next step ?? dunno really – anyone need their bags carrying around the Leeds area 8)
No competition as i`m hoping to set up in London !!……. and if you`re reading this Graham – it`s still witchcraft ….
