I’m replacing an old dryer that’s been disconnected and taken away. I need to connect the vent tube to the new dryer.

The existing tube fits the new dryer’s rear vent outlet. A new tube was provided with the new dryer. It differs from the existing tube in that it’s metal, whereas the existing one is metal (spring) and white plastic (covering).

I’m hoping to avoid replacing the tube because I’m not certain I can access the tube end connected to the wall vent. It’s behind the washing machine. I’m worried that if I pull the washing machine forward, I’ll disconnect a water pipe/tube connected to its rear. I’ve tried pulling it forward but it’s very tightly fitted into the unit and stiff. I’m not certain that I actually can.

Can I use the existing vent tube for the new dryer?

Trouble is if you don’t use the supplied hose it could invalidate your guarantee. I have seen these on the latest Indesit machines, I guess there could be a risk of an overheat problem with the plastic one.

The instruction booklet and a sticker explicitly warn not to use a plastic hose. Apologies, I posted hastily.

I managed to disconnect the washing machine at the wall rather than the washing machine’s rear.

The end of the dryer’s existing plastic hose was slightly squished to fit into the hole in the wall. The hole is a plastic pipe that’s covered on the outside with a metal grid, which is covered with plastic grilles.

The instruction booklet says the hose can be connected to the wall using a wall mounting kit (not supplied) using one of two supplied jubilee clips (only one jubilee actually supplied). Given how close the hole is to the corner of the wall, I don’t think there’s room for the plate of the duct connector or the duct connector itself.

Is it OK to slightly squish the new hose into the hole, just as the previous hose was, to make it fit and feed it right through the hole to the outside? The diameter of the hoses and hole are the same.

you cant squish the hose as any reduction in diameter will reduce air flow

it worries me a bit that the outside grill has a mash across it. This will catch fluff over time and may block. possibly damaging the dryer and increasing fire risk

Is there any way at all of getting a duct connector installed for that hole or do I need a new hole?

Is the mash the metal part? Will removing it and using just a plastic grille do?

removing the metal grill will greatly improve it so its worth doing

may still block over time but you can keep an eye on it
