Video’s crashed at mo. but early this morning the ROV operator was trying to get a 3 & 11/16″ socket onto a 3 & 5/8″ bolthead using an impact driver with the socket held on with gaffer tape and the switch held closed with string. This went on for at least three hours before I gave up and went to bed.
It’s difficult enough to undo those bolts when they’re on land as they’re torqued to many thousands of foot pounds apparently. The ROV arm was holding the tool (looked like an ordinary drill) using a handle on the side of it about half way along. Guess the power could have twisted its claw off otherwise.

PS: Here’s some previous action on Youtube. The pipe is 21″ in diameter. The shear tool about 14′ long. And remember it’s a mile under the sea.
