ParticipantSorry to sound off but I am getting concerned about quality of some of comments on the trade forums. I don’t need to quote because I am sure you all know what I mean.
Am I alone in these thoughts?
Moderators.. Please feel free to delete this thread if you think I am out of line here.

In order for UKW to appeal to all, the exchange of views and comments has to be free-flowing. The site is a broad church and has to be a broad church in order for it to work effectively.
We moderators do in fact discuss many issues ‘behind the scenes’ within our own forum. Often resulting in PM’s to many individuals who may have over-stepped the mark with certain posts, and very often such posts are either edited by us or deleted.
Many postee’s do get a little, shall we say, overenthusiastic and pretty near the mark but rest assured we read ALL POSTS and if we consider it inappropriate it will be dealt with! 🙂

Sensible ..!!
shall we determine what sensible is..?
If we all stayed so serious in this job I think most of us would be in straight jackets by now.
The site isn’t just a collection of forums exchanging tech and info its a release from the real life to an extent where we can complain about customers and companies without being kicked out the door for having moan or exchange of veiws,a tease, joke or just a moan to get it off our chests.
To be honest most of us wont see another engineer from one week to a month so a little banter between engineers in a forum where the public dont go isnt bad at all.
wait till kevin starts on his rum again..

Sorry, I’m not gettng my point across. I’m talking about unsafe practices and suggestions, not just having a giggle, usually at Chris’s expense!
Perhaps my choice of subject title is misleading. It should say “can we be more responsible here please”
I am getting concerned about several posts in the trade forums where advice is being given that is not really up to standard. We are all proffessional engineers here. If we’re not then we shouldn’t be posting advice!
Does that make more sense?

I think I twig where you are coming from now Bob and I’m not sure that too much of that happens anyway.
I do recall one instance where someone drilled holes in the back panel to access the motor as being a somewhat ‘over zealous’ approach to a problem perhaps? But in the main the advice given is generally pretty sound and helpful overall. 😀
Some guys posts are really very novel and most amusing, like for example taking a Zanussi drum completely out just to change a door seal? Very good stuff to read and take on board I reckon and a good chuckle on the way 😉
However if you would like to be even more specific as to your reasoning in this case, perhaps it best to PM me or one of my fellow Moderators!

When I finally figure out your innuendo Bryan I will try to enjoy my Christmas, although I plan to stay at home like Scrooge and mutter “Humbug” a lot. I did enjoy my holiday earlier last month too, but all the while was trying to suss out why the hell you made reference to it at Sibson? 🙄
Meanwhile, as ever, I thank you for your good wishes :rotfl:

We are all free to take on board or reject advice according to our own judgement so I can’t see a problem. I realise that advising the public is a different matter as we have no way to tell what aptitude Joe Public has for the job in hand.
