ParticipantHi,
My Liebherr fridge freezer has packed up after only 4 years. Insurance has written it off and I have been given the following model numbers as alternative replacements.
Can you please advise which one is best?

Indesit IBNF55181W1 Fridge Freezer
Hotpoint HTFC850TI1W1
Hotpoint H1NT811EW1
Hotpoint HCIH50TI1W1
Hotpoint HBNF55181W1
Hotpoint HBD5517W1I really look forward to getting your expert advice. Many thanks in advance.

Moderatoryou have been very unlucky they have had to scrap A Liebherr fridge after only 4 years. would like to know why as it has to be serious. Is it a reputable insurance co ?
I would say none of these as in the same class as the Liebherr..All of the above are the same manufacturer as indesit and hotpoint are part of whirlpool

ModeratorWhat type of insurance policy has written it off?
Hotpoint and Indesit are part of the same group and are nowhere near the quality of Liebherr. I would go back to the insurers and try and negotiate for another Liebherr as they are the best.
If they cannot supply a Liebherr find the current model to what you currently have and try and negotiate a cash settlement so you can purchase elsewhere.

ModeratorSounds very suspect, it’s like writing off a top of the range Mercedes and offering you a Fiat as a replacement.:o

Agree – if it’s a ‘new for old’ policy then they are certainly not fulfilling that. I’d go back to the insurer and ask why they think a Hotpoint/Indesit is comparable to a Liebherr unit.

ParticipantMany thanks for that. I was actually the one who insisted on a replacement as the insurance company (Domestic & General) took almost 3 months to try sort it out, coming once and saying there was nothing wrong, a month later (earliest available appointment) and saying they would bring a new element as the one in my freezer had blown, and then about 6 weeks later…with the wrong replacement part. At which point I said, forget it, just give me a new fridge freezer. The one I currently have beeps at all odd hours, frequently waking us at night, which is why it’s so nerve-wracking. But I suppose I should try and ask them to come with the correct element and then I can hopefully enjoy another few good years out of this machine.
