Candy 590 C condenser tumble dryer

Hi, as you can see from my user name I am just about pulling my hair out here. Problem is when I turn the program selector the start light comes on as normal but when I press the button nothing happens. If I leave it switches on I can hear a ticking sound every so often. I have done everything suggested on the company’s website and tried calling them for help but ll they want to do is sell me insurance on the product. I am wary about calling an engineer in as I am on a limited income but, although I am not a complete idiot, I find this sort of problem confusing. Can anyone please help me?

If the start pause light stays alight when you press it and all the other lights don’t flash this could be a problem with the motor capacitor somewhat like a starter motor on a car the capacitor is like a start to get the motor going
