KeymasterHi,
I hope somebody can help me.
We’ve had Candy AQW130 since dec 2002. All of a sudden it has stopped spinning. The mechanism keeps clicking, the water draining, but the drum stays still. We looked and there seems to be nothing wrong with it inside. In this topic I’ve read it could be the motor, carbon brushes or belt. Could there be any other reason? How can we check if it’s the brushes or motor? If it is, is it difficult to fix or should we call an engineer out?
I’ll appreciate any advise!March 8, 2005 at 12:35 am #128004Penguin45

At three years old, it is unlikely that the motor brushes will be worn out yet – possible if you have hordes of kids, but pushing it a bit. The motor may have failed, but then it wouldn’t run in the wash………. So – electronic board is the most likely culprit. With the power off, check for dry/burnt joints.
If you are not sure about how to proceed, please get pro help. You can check in repairs@ukwhitegoods.com or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

Hi vasiliok
If there is no motor action at all then it could be a number of things, the brushes being the most likely, however to determine the fault the brushes could be visually examined but anything else requires the use of a meter.
If it is simply not doing the final spin then you may have a blockage in the water level control.
If you look in Repairs@ you’ll find someone to cover your area.March 8, 2005 at 2:35 pm #128006admin
KeymasterThank you very much for the quick responce and advise!
I have checked for a specialist near me prior to writing the post, but there are non on repairs@.
My husband has checked inside the mashine, he says there is nothing visually wrong with the motor or the belt, but he didn’t check the brushes.
The machine swithches on, pumps the water in, the washes regulator goes round the dials and clicks, the water pumps out, but the drum just does not spin at any time during the cycle. It’s possible to spin the drum by hand when the machine is not on. Does this still sounds like a board? I would prefer for my husband to sort it out, if possible, it will be quicker.March 8, 2005 at 3:18 pm #128007Martin

Very unlikely to be the board I reckon! 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s the Motor Brushes, even after a couple of years they wear out at quite a rate I find (Part No 91212332). Easy’ish to fit and cheap to buy…worth a go 😉

KeymasterDear Martin,
Thank you very much for your advise.
Could you please also explain where exactly the brushes are located, how to determine if they are faulty and do we have to dissemble motor in order to fit the new ones?
I am pretty sure my husband will be able to do it, but I will have to translate it all properly for him, so your detailed explanation will be invaluable.
Again, many thanks in advance,Lisa

Lisa,
Sadly it is both illegal and unethical for me to specify how this is done. The legal statement therefore reads:- Always disconnect the electrical supply before attempting any repairs to this equipment. Only qualified service engineers should attempt any such repairs and/or adjustments.
I have to assume your husband may not necessarily hold the relevant qualifications for such an undertaking….sorry 🙁
