hi there hope someone can help – I’ve inherited a broken tumble dryer and was told it just needs a new heater assembly – the lights come on and the timer claicks away when switched on but the motor does not spin – is the motor governed by the heater ass.? I.E. cos the heater is bust the motor will not operate? I don’t want to buy a new heater ass if the motor is broken.

    Thanks for any help,

Other way round – the fan on the end of the motor blows air through the heater – no air flow, heater safety blows. The motor is a capacitor start type, it may well be that this is what has failed. Always assuming that the drum is free to turn – there was a spate of shaft failures, causing the drum to drop in the casing and jam.

But to answer the basic question, if the motor has actually failed as well as the heater, it is beyond any sort of economic repair.
