Our machine was on a fast spin at the end of a cycle, it then made a noise i would describe as being like a handful of pebbles rolling about in the drum. As i got to the machine this changed to a metal on metal scraping noise. I opened the door and took out the few shirts that where in there, and there was nothing loose in the drum.When i turn the drum by hand there is a scraping noise as described above. I’d appreciate any advice you could give me.

It could be coins in between the drum and the outer tub. They get whipped up on a wave of water on the spin cycle like mini frisbees and clatter around the tub. Or a bra wire could make the same sort of noise.
Put your hand in the drum and gently run the back of your fingers across the holes in the drum; you may be lucky if it is a wire as it may still be poking through the drum holes. Pliers to pull it out.
Coins are more involved. Check the filter for coins first: if there are some here there are probably more in the drum. Severe damage can ensue from coins – if you can’t locate what is wrong get some pro help. It is cheaper and safer than the alternative. Washing or spinning with coins in the tub could cost you a new machine. 🙁

Power off before any inspection. :plug:

Thanks for the reply Steve. I got my head inside the drum ,and with aid of a torch, spotted a bra wire lodged under the edge of the drum and tub. I got a thin allen key and poked it through one of the holes and quite easily dislodged the wire. The drum now turns quietly.

Now I know it should’nt be in there but can it be left safely?. Will it get flushed out, or just washed up around the drum and tub again when it gets filled?

Er, yes – it’s got to come out. If it’s free under the drum, extracting the heater will give you enough access (Power off first). Torch and wire coat hanger very useful at this point.
