    Hi,

I’ve recently acquired a second hand Candy EVO W 6853D-80 washer/drier (came free with a house). I now understand why the previous owners left it – it makes a horrible high speed banging noise when it comes up to a spin. After some removal of covers, inspection and background reading I’m pretty sure it’s a broken drum spider. I’ve also just been learning about the joys of welded tubs, which explains the lack of advertised spare spiders for this model 🙁

Anyway, I don’t like to give up easily, and so I intend to follow the example of others who have cut open and then retro-bolted their drums. However, it will all be a waste of time unless I can get a new spider. I am hoping that the spider in this machine may be a common spare with other, replaceable models, and so I might be able to buy one – does anyone know if this is the case? Otherwise I guess I open it up and take some measurements and see if it matches anything.

The bearings seem fine, but I guess it might be sensible to pick those up at the same time? And I suppose a shaft seal also…

As an aside, the previous owner had a very lucky escape: the water inlet hose is chafed to within a gnat’s whatnot of failure. That part at least *is* available though.

Any help very gratefully received. I hate to see an otherwise good machine go to scrap for what should be a fairly straightforward repair.

    Thanks,
    Richard

Thanks Bryan for the quick reply – even if not the answer I was hoping for 🙁
Nothing to lose I suppose, I might as well open it up anyway. Maybe I can fix or substitute the spider somehow. Clutching at straws now… It will be informative at least.
