ParticipantHello all,
Bought this Candy washing machine about 2 years ago.
About a week ago I got a fault code ER08. So with it being out of guarantee I thought I would have a butchers myself. So after some initial googling around I found out that ER08 refers to the motor and that some people suggest the Tachometric Coil. So before I spent time and money changing coils, motors and knuckle skin I thought I would seek some advice.
The drum will fill with water.
Water will go through the detergent tray.
It sounds like a relay clicking on when its time to turn the drum.
Drum won’t turn.
Water will drain away when “pump out” is selected.Does not respond to swearing or threats. Any other ideas?
Should also add that the carbon brushes are intact and have plenty of length.

Problem 1: If the water doesn’t come in then not much else will happen, period.
Problem 2: A relay clicking and no motor action would indicate either a fault with the motor, the wiring or connection to it or, possibly the motor controller itself.
Problem 3: Sussing out problem 2 will be difficult at best until problem 1 is cured.
Water must go through the dispenser drawer to get to the drum and it’s more or less a straight path from there to the drum so, if you pour in water then yep, it’ll go right in there. But that doesn’t really help in figuring out the problem.
First thing to do is work out why water isn’t getting in essentially and go from there.

Sorry I should have made it clearer. The water does go into the drum and just sits there until you pump it out.

Motor or control module then, either one could be the culprit but it does sound like the motor given the module is reporting the error as it should.

Could it be the Tachometric Coil? I will have access to a multi meter this afternoon but without a wiring diagram I’d be poking around blindly so any pointers would be gratefully received

Yes and there are usually only two wires to it, chances of a diagram are close to zero I’m afraid.

Far more likely to be the motor brushes but as they are using cheap Haier, Chinese made motors in most of these then the motor could well be goosed.:(

So after a bit of investigation the Tacho seems to be preforming okay, the carbon brushes still have plenty of travel left in them. So this leads me to think its either the motor or a module.
I’m not exactly willing to turn my kitchen into a test bed for a motor so I have decided to use a fixed price repairer does anyone have any experience with these or any recommendations? I’m leaning towards British Gas as they seem to guarantee their work for a year.
Thoughts?

British Gas are the biggest of all the fixed price cowboys, don’t go the fixed price (big con)route. A local independent repairer can do it far cheaper. 😀
