ParticipantDon`t do much in the way of refridgeration now, but had to call on a regular customer with a candy frost free fridge freezer, there was a large amount of ice in the freezer, it was solid and looked like it had flowed out near the bottom engulfing the lower baskets so as not to be able to get them out! I have asked her to defrost it and will go back today. Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated
Thanks AllanJune 2, 2006 at 9:52 am #178230Dave_Conway

Defrost heater or thermostat failure I would think, possibly the PCB if it has one (no model number to check ;))

It does have a PCB then. Possibles as above in that case, defrost heater, thermal fuse etc.

ParticipantThanks, have been back and finished defrosting the thick ice whiched filled the gully and drain hole, turned it off and back on went into defrost mode, defrost heater works fine although not very powerful. could it be design fault?

ParticipantNo drain heater, but I wrapped a length of wire around the part of the heater above the drain and positioned it into the drain hole, hopefully this may help keep it clear?
Thanks for your replys and help

ParticipantYep a lot of models struggle with this .I also run a piece of wire down the hole seems to work .But i do wonder why the main manf dont do it although i have seen a unit with the element going down the hole.

hi had this fault a lot i move the defrost sensor from inside the evap and tie wrap it too the evap entry after the capillary where it is the fattest never been back to one 😉 .the sensor is generally right next to the heater bringing off defrost too early.
