    Help!

My beloved Candy GrandO GOC 218 is very unwell indeed!

When I turn her on, she makes a humming sound but doesn’t spin nor heat. Sometimes the clean filter will come on immediately, other times it’ll come on after a while. Once it comes on, it stays on!

This sound and behavior is similar to what it does when the water is full – however I assure you that the water is empty and the filter is as clear as I can get it (which isn’t amazingly clear) (fiddly little things!)

There is also a odd burning smell coming from the unit now too.

I should mention that this device has made some squeezing sounds when spinning previously – as if it’s struggling to turn and needs a greasing. It didn’t do it all the time however.

I’m wondering if this is a motor, heating element, or something else. Any ideas how I can confirm before I spend money!

Furthermore, I’m struggling to find anywhere listing parts for a “GOC 218” also! Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Michael

you dont grease a dryer they use dry bearings so you would need to strip and find out why. at this point if you have grased it in the wrong place you may need to replace the seals to get it dry again
the burning smell is prob from the heater coming on when the motor and fan is not moving

Thanks for your reply. I haven’t greased anything, I’ve not touched it at all.

Sounds like I’m going to need to buy a new one…

    take the lid off

switch the dryer on and as you press start give the drum a push

if it goes it is probably going to be the motor capacitor

bad news due to hoovers aweful build quality its a pig to get to

    advise

give up, for a cheap dryer buy a white knight, for better quality buy a bosch or for the very best buy miele
