ParticipantJust had call from a customer I’ve been to a couple of times in past.
She asked if I’d be able to come and connect up a new washer for them tomorrow. As it was only a few months back that I fitted a new door handle kit to the one they have I asked why they were chucking it. She told me that this morning it had overheated and melted the fleece clothing within it, turning same to solid plastic. I think she said it had also melted the door seal and was pouring out smoke. She was rather shaken by this, understandably, and decided it has to go.
I suggested she ought perhaps to inform Hoover / Candy (can’t remember exact model/make but it was one of those two.) and she said she had thought about it but wasn’t sure.
Any suggestions as to who she should inform / complain to? Machine may be 5 to 10 years old IIRC. I don’t think they’ll be wanting to store it any length of time – space considerations and so forth. They live about 100 yards from the local Currys store and are picking up the new one themselves.

Elements on Hoover machines from that era in my experience have had an element with thermal fuse, highlighted by different coloured terminal insulators, which should be fail safe. Could the original element have been replaced in the past with an alternative part without this additional protection?

Note to self: Don’t take what customers say too literally.
I was expecting to find a large lump of plastic such as is often seen after a wheelie bin fire. Instead it was just a slightly damaged fleece which had obviously been heated by friction and admittedly was turned to hard plastic in places.
A quick hand in the drum soon confirmed the reason and it was the usual fate which modern Candy are prone to. Oh well, will be more cautious in future. Must be all these threads on exploding washers etc. which got me excited.

You had me wondering for a minute. But I checked and indeed there are two gs in exaggerate.
