    Hi everyone,

I’ve got a Candy oven which won’t heat up. I’m thinking the thermostat is broken, but they’re expensive to buy, so I’m hoping someone can either confirm this or give me some other advice. I’ll describe the oven and the symptoms.

The oven’s model number is illegible; the sticker has been worn away. The thermostat is a Prodigy TR/86, and the oven is an electric fan oven with a grill.

When we turn the oven on, it doesn’t heat up at all, but the fan turns on. The grill works fine, though I must add that once I tried to turn the grill on without the thermostat in the oven, and the grill didn’t turn on. I’m guessing this is just a circuitry thing, it doesn’t necessarily mean the thermostat works.

I’ve looked at all the wiring and nothing is disconnected, as far as I can see. Beyond that I can’t tell what the problem! I looked on the internet, and most problems seemed to spring from the thermostat. That’s all I know!

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I’d suggest you look at the fan oven element before the thermostat as it’s a far more likely point of failure.

Without a model number though, very hard to tell you what element will be in it.

Ok I’ll take another look at it, but I did already and couldn’t see anything wrong with it. It’s basically a massive resistor, what goes wrong with it?

That said, one thing we did try is disconnecting the grill and hooking the grill wiring to the fan oven elements. We turned the grill on then (which would now heat up the fan oven elements) and didn’t get any heat out of it. I thought that the grill might just be a lower power. Come to think of it, that seems like a pretty bad assumption.

    Correct, poor assumption.
