    Hi all

I have a Candy oven/ grill. The oven power switch on the wall is working fine and the digital display on the over is working fine also.

When I try to use the oven or the grill there is no fan or heat coming on. The light within the oven is lighten up.

After some research online I had come to the conclusion that I needed a new element. Then I went to remove the back end of the oven, which was fine and as I began to disconnect the cables at the back I noticed one of them was fried and the plastic casing of it pretty much crumbled as I tried to remove it (please see the images). Is this my issue or would it be element. Any advice would be welcome. I have no idea what model of oven I have.

    Thanks

    Re: Candy Oven problem

this looks like an F series oven where the element loads from the back. what worries me is you say you have no fan. if the element fails then the fan in the middle of the element still works.
your crumbling plastic is common on this model and you may have to squeeze the terminals to get them tighter
if you do need to change the element use the gen one as the non gens don’t fit properly or last as long

I had the same issue and a candy oven few weeks ago .

Initially I thought the customer had not set the timer on the oven so the oven would not operate. When I got there I found that the fan motor had failed and that in turn had led to the element burning out. I replaced the fan motor and element and it was good as new.

    Thanks for the replies both.

So the crumbling plastic isn’t something that I should worry about? I have went ahead and removed the fan/ element panel from the oven. If the element is done would it be obvious from looking at it? I have included a picture of the element.

Thanks for your help so far.

to be honest it does not look too bad but you cant always tell from a picture

if you have access to a multimeter you should get under 100 ohms across the element if its ok

    does the fan turn easily

would hate to think you have jumped the gun and you problem is the clock (if fitted)

    Re: Candy Oven problem

As electrofix says you cant always tell from a photo. I have seen elements that look perfect but there is zero continuity through them.

The crumbling plastic is not usually an issue as it will happen with most plastics when heated for long periods. Just so long as there is no chance of the connector shorting out on the casing it will be fine.

I had a customer call me out to a faulty oven but it turned out to be the clock needed a reset after a power cut. oops!

    Re: Candy Oven problem

I can set the timer fine and it counts down and the alarm goes off as normal. But there is still no fan or heat coming from inside. There is no noise or anything.

I tried to turn the fan with my hand and it is rotating fine. Looks like I will have to call someone out……. 😥

    Re: Candy Oven problem

I’ve just spotted this thread. The terminals are buggered and need replacing for starters. No heat/no fan has got to mean the thermal safety cutout (aka TOC) is open circuit.

So, I do agree you should get someone in to sort it as best option at this stage.
