ParticipantPosted this in Other Appliances by mistake but it probably belongs here:
Hob is about 6 years old and has been fine until now when it gives error code E1, which according to the manual is ‘Abnormal voltage in the power supply’. Seems odd as nothing has changed and if we had supply problems they would surely affect other appliances too.
If I contact Candy they will say that it’s not an appliance problem so will probably call in the electrician who did the kitchen. Just wondered if anyone else had had this problem and what was the cause.
Any advice welcome

when does the unit fail?
when you switch the unit on at the wall or
when you put a pan on and start cooking ?

Fails immediately you power it up. Then keeps showing the fault code until you cut power again

sound like a board fault. you could measure the voltage to see if its low or high but apart from that cant think of anything else. as a quick test you could disconnect it and power it up from another source such as a socket. since it does not need to be in use to fail you will know quickly.
as a long shot check its earthed ok. cant seeing it making a difference but its longshot time

If it was a board fault would it only affect one appliance?

Hi
Do you have the product and serial number as there are 4 variants to the PVI640 ?

Update.
Electrician confirms supply is ok. Candy engineer coming next Tuesday. I told them the fault code when calling but I bet the engineer picks up on it.Meantime been looking at what’s available if we do have to replace. Bosch do one that simply plugs into a 13amp socket. This is rated at 2.9kW. They also have one that seems identical but is 4.6kW and would obviously not be 13 amp.
Ok – I realise that one is more powerful but what would this mean in practical terms? Presumably they both do the same job, both heat pans in the same way. Would one be quicker? If not why pay a higher purchase price and have the added complication of dedicated wiring? Don’t expect to have to replace but having seen this am just interested in the difference.

Hi
The PIA611B68 13A allows you to use two zones at max power. If you activate all of the zones 2.9kw is shared between all four. The attached explains it a little nicer 😉
