I do like my gadgets – ARGOS are doing the Candy smart touch NFC enabled Washing machines very cheap. On investigation the machines seem to all be fitted with brush type motors and not quiet inverter/induction motors – I absolutely detest the ‘squeal/shrill’ brush type motors make when they are spinning, and i would have the machine in the kitchen so i cannot be listening to that, it would be like sitting in a dentist waiting room listening to the dentists drill!

So strange that they would bring out what seems a snazzy machine with loads of features but still stick a bog standard carbon brush type motor on it, yes I can understand a brush type motor on your basic entry level bargain basement 149 quid bog standard 6kg 1000rpm speed machine with hardly any features.

Also people have said to me in the past ‘stay well clear of Candy make, you will regret it they are crap!” … is that really the case? – or was it the case that they were iffy years ago but they have got better?

Not great, a lot of them made in China these days, the Chinese made brush gear motors they use are rather weak for a start.

I thought they were made in Italy in the Hoover factory?

No, they were made in Italy in the CANDY factory, as most Hoover machines have been for the past 15 or 20 years now but in recent times they have had several models made in China and even the Italian produced machines have had Chinese motors in them for a while.

…..but rest assured they will sell like hot cakes AND, and any weaknesses will keep the repair trade occupied.

So everyone gets the Candy

Thanks, do you mean as in not reliable as a washing machine .. or that the NFC part of it is not reliable?

Re: Candy Smart touch washing machine series – any good?

Tell me, what use is NFC on a washing machine?

You can’t exactly use Apple Pay or whatever the Android equivalent is to pay for stuff on it or, if you do get suckered into that, you’re daft.

Virtually no clothing holds an NFC chip so that’s a bit of a dead end. Some played with it but I don’t think it ever got anywhere, no use, people won’t pay for it, yada, yada.

No detergent has an NFC thing going on.

So I totally fail to see the point of even considering it as being remotely useful. About as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike as the saying goes.

In fact, most of the connected appliance stuff I see pretty much resides in that, of little to no use, category as it is, in my opinion even being a bit of a tech junkie, utterly pointless and does not offer any advance or use enhancement.

Does lever more cash out those that buy them though. 😉

As I mentioned earlier they will sell like hot cakes. Any excuse to add an app to your smartphone. With Candy you can:
    Have smart check-up
    Optimise your washing habits
Voice assistant, smart cycles and so much more. Even add 40 extra programmes. Set it to finish when you want it to.
Oh yes, we’ll all want NFC stuff. Soon if it doesn’t have it they won’t buy it. 😉

One small step for man, one giant leap into the future….

    I still want one 🙂

love gadgets me – and I love to show them off to visitors to the house “oh wow , I love your washing machine! – its fab, look at all the features” and i am alway’s saying that with normal washing machines with 15 programmes there are still sometimes not one that suits. These Candy Smart ones have something like 40 to choose from and you can download them and transfer them to the washing machine by NFC – absolutely cool!

… but with one caveat I will never ever go back to a washing machine ever again that uses brushes on its motor. The noisy squeal and everything as it spins, no way hosé – that s where I am stuffed with something like this Candy Smart washing machine because as far as I can tell (at the moment) is that the smart ones (well the UK sourced ones) all use motors with Brushes in the motor. Fancy bringing out a lovely machine like that with so many features and putting a plain ol’ brush type motor on it!

I emailed Candy support to ask them which washing machines in their smart range had brushless quiet induction motors and they emailed back a couple of GV number washing machines. – I emailed back that these were not the ‘Smart’ NFC models , that was a week ago and never got another reply.

Andy, please take this the right way, tongue firmly in cheek, but…

That’s the most pointless drivel I’ve read in ages. 😉

Wash programs for clothing are determined by the GINETEX, HLCC and in the UK the UK Fashion & Textile Association.

They are NOT set by washing machine makers.

Therefore, unless all those organisations change something (extremely unlikely) there is absolutely and utterly, absolutely no point or use in downloading new programs as they don’t exist.

If you do, you’re using a wash program that is not approved by the detergent manufacturers or the textile industry so, if they wreck stuff… tough on you.

So all those “cool” programs, completely useless tripe to part idiots that don’t know any better from their cash for BS that they don’t need… bluntly put.

So any of your friends and neighbours that have the gumption to research this or, happen across this post will know what it’s all about and may well just think… what a muppet. 😉

Then as they know that, might try to extract some cash from you as you clearly have more of that than sense.

Now I know that all might seem harsh but I’m trying to get the message through to yourself and others that follow that this stuff is complete and utter BS, a total waste of your money.

Wow!! – sounds like its really hit a raw nerve, There are loads of electronic things on the market these days with ‘pointless’ features, if you thought like that no-one would buy anything new and the manufacturers wouldnt bother keeping their products updated with the newest features available to the consumer.

You say gullible people who fall for these features are muppets … some people might have the attitude that dont embrace these new features are maybe luddites! and sheep followers.

No, I praise companies like Candy pushing the boudries, we already have smart features on ovens, fridges and dishwashers , why should not the washing machine manufacturers now think out of the box and offer consumers more features than the present 15 programmes and offer other features to integrate with mobile phones?

Thats a very bold OTT statement that if they are offering more programmes (not approved by someone) that its could wreck garments I wont go as far as thinking that is complete and utter BS myself … but I still think thats an OTT statement all the same

Re: Candy Smart touch washing machine series – any good?

Nope not really, I love gadgets as well but, not pointless waste of money ones.

Washing machine programs, if they are not on this page for domestic and some commercial ones that may apply to domestic…

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/stai … sh-symbols

… do not exist in the eyes of the detergent industry, professional laundry industry, textile industry, clothing manufacturing industry and so on.

In other words, all these stupid programs they come up with to sell you a pile of excrement, are completely made up, Hans Christian Andersen would be made proud and, his works probably more truthful.

If you want to waste money on pointless tripe that may well ruin your clothes, fill your boots as they say.

Candy, Bosch, Samsung, LG et all and, they’re all at it now and are living in a deluded cloud cuckoo land with tech. Almost none of it integrates with much anything else other than their own proprietary systems so, pointless in terms of automation.

That’s so you have to buy more of their stuff, even if it’s junk as it can’t talk to anything else.

    They use weird protocols.

They get dropped in terms of support.

They often can’t even play nice with certain brands or OSs that they’re supposed to work on.

And security, don’t even get me started. A wet paper bag would be more secure.

Trust in this, I know more about this than most people and understand it completely, it’s is a waste of time as things stand, utterly pointless.
