    Hi,

On saturday, my girlfriends washer/dryer, a candy aquaviva 1300, caught fire and caused extensive fire damage to the kitchen, and smoke damage to the rest of her flat.

The flat is rented, and the washing machine was part of the furnishings. At the moment, she is living in a serviced apartment which the landlords insurance is paying for, but she did not have insurance for whatever reason.

Now, I know its daft not to have insurance, so please no comments along those lines…

What i want to know is, Are there any recall notices on this model, as i know some candy dryers have been?

Also any ideas on the legal position of being able to recover costs from the landlords insurance as it was his dryer that caused the fire?

    thanks for any help!

    Hi Chrish

I am sorry to hear of your girlfriends news, I hope things get sorted quickly for her. Whilst not detracting from the seriousness of her position, thankfully the matter is restricted to material possessions rather than physical injury.

I am not aware of any recalls to the model described but I would suggest you contact GIAS, the manufacturers service company for full clarification.

With regards to compensation claims and such like, I do not think this is correct place to discuss this particular matter and again I respectfully suggest you seek professional advice. Your local trading standards or citizens advice bureau would be more equiped to deal with your enquiry.

Good luck with getting the matter sorted.

    Thanks for the reply…

As for damage, it was just material things luckily, no-one was injured.

Thanks for the tip on the GIAS, ill look into that.

As for the legal stuff, we will be contacting a solicitor, but i was just wondering if anyone had had previous experience of this. Thanks anyway!

    cheers
    chris
