Cannon Oven gets hotter and hotter

I know nothing of ovens but think I may have a problem with my themostat. I have a Cannon dual fual oven (not sure of the exact model), and everything works fine with the exception of the main oven.
When I turn this on (and set to 180 degrees) the light that tells me when it has reached temperature never goes out – eventually the oven turns itself off totally (I’m guessing some kind of thermal safety device). Also if I turn the temperature knob down to a low temperature the light still doesn’t go out – even though the oven is getting very hot indeed.

Can anyone offer any advice as to what this could be and also likely cost of repair e.g. If it is mostly likely to be a thermostat of some sort do these cost £50 or £500 to replace ?

Sounds thermostat related. Have you a model number?

Thanks for the fast reply – I’m sending this from my daughter’s house and so will post the model number once I find out what it is when I get back home tonight.
If it is are these generally cheaper to replace then getting a new oven?

its also dual fuel, so regardless of the fact youve got a thermostat problem, its best sorted by a corgi registered engineer

its a gas hob, so that has to be removed to change the thermostat.. so it becomes a gas repair as it needs to be tested for tightness and safety after the repair

sorry, but rules are rules

and it will certainly be cheaper than buying a new oven, that i can assure you
