Hi all
I have a gas Cannon Double Oven SI MK2 which is at least 10 years old.
Recently whilst cooking a roast I noticed that the clock display was flashing 00:00 which is what appears if the power ever goes off. I didn’t take much notice until I realised that this had cut the gas off to the oven! By setting the time the oven immediately re-lit and all was well.
However, this problem has now got worse and worse and most of the time the clock display does not now show anything. Even with the display not showing anything the oven still works but what is now happening, every time, is that the display unit will suddenly start flashing 00:00 and the gas cuts out in the oven(s).
Over the last few days a new fault I have noticed is that whilst the clock is still “dead” I can hear clicking sounds every few minutes.
I would appreciate any thoughts anyone has. My guess is that it may need a replacement timer unit (about £100) + labour which may come in at around the £200 area. That said could it just be a faulty connection?
I’ve used this site’s find a repairer option but there isn’t anyone showing for Cannon, Gas in Surrey. The Cannon people charge a minimum £89.
For a cooker of this age am I looking at a new one?
All thoughts gratefully received…
Mike
