My cooker is an old Cannon Double Oven Deluxe Mk3 – GC appliance number 11 132 17.

The problem seems to be a faulty timer. The display is very dim and barely visible even in dark conditions and has been like that for a very long time now. We don’t use the timer though and it hasn’t bothered us. However it appears that the clock is now unstable and keeps unsetting itself [ flashing zeros]. Consequently the oven will not work unless the cancel button is pressed and a “time” is set again.

I am not sure if it is possible to get a replacement timer now but in any event I gather that timers are quite expensive and have no wish to spend this amount for something I don’t really need.

The timer spec from the users manual is as follows

    GC No Part No Description
    384 332 18432 Timer – Diamond H CP250
    394 287 18432 Timer – Satchwell 4921201
    381 802 18432 Timer – I.C.C

It seems from this that there are 3 manufacturers of timers which will all do the job.

On looking at it I see 3 wires which come out of the main harness cable which connect with the timer [ spade connectors ] as well as an earth wire.

A brown wire which connects to a terminal marked live on the timer board
A blue wire which connects to a terminal marked neutral on the timer board
A black wire which connects to a terminal marked “OP ” [ which I assume means operation ] on the timer board.

How do I bypass the timer ?
