ParticipantI know that the site has been updated since I last logged in because it said so in a banner at the top but blimey, I cant get past the adverts that are popping up all over the place, even right in the middle of posts are HUGE full screen width banner adverts all blinking and flashing that you click and close and wham they appear again as soon as you scroll further down.
I know that I am not brilliant on computers and I get the dynamics of ads on websites but is there a setting or something that at least calms them down a bit because it makes trying to read the forums very distracting.March 14, 2022 at 3:08 pm #481623electrofix
ModeratorI get a pop up add and its annoying but you just click on the page and it disappears
you could try using a browser that blocks adverts
I am using Brave browser as it blocks a lot of the junk and pays you a small fee for some adds if you want to

ModeratorI mainly view the site on my iPad using Safari browser, can’t remember the last time I saw an add or pop up?

Moderatornever ever seen it that bad
the adds dont make sense to me. you go on a site and buy something and for the next 3 days you get hit with adds for something you already bought

ParticipantIf you click on the little symbol somewhere in the advert (sometimes labelled Ad choices), I found you can opt out of that particular advert host. I went though this process for three different hosts, and bingo, no adverts! I guess I’ll see some new ones next time I log in though.

KeymasterThey are controlled by Google these days, virtually no manual control at all but I have asked them to tone it down, it annoys me at times as well.

Moderatorthe other thing that helps is rejecting cookies. most sites now let you reject advertising cookies and its good to run things like crapcleaner or similar apps to clear them out. these apps allow you to set the ones you want to keep and it will kill all the rest
or as i said above use brave browser. not only does it block lots of stuff but also pays you a small fee in crypto if you want
according to my brave stats i have saved 2.5G of bandwidth which saves time loading pages

ParticipantIt’s all to do with target marketing after all. As the saying goes : Lamborghini never advertise on TV because those that could afford one aren’t watching TV! ………..oh! An advert’s just popped up……wait one…… Go Outdoors are flogging camping gaz hobs for only 15 quid, wow! Must dash……..!

ParticipantSounds good – I could only see a couple of lines of text at a time below the adverts for while a few days ago – now I can’t see any!
