I knew someone was going to ask that :rolls: .
To put it most clearly, my dear, so that you can understand 😀 : I only need to take the steak knives with me when I’m going to a Bosch clipped tub bearing job (i.e. once only so far, and in fact I used knives supplied willingly by the customer). Whereas, I take my sidecutters everywhere except to bed.

ps would butter knifes do or do they have to be steak knifes ?? ..

I think butter knives might do but they would need to be of the narrow sort.
Steak knives are more pointy and will go in ideal.

The plastic clips are in groups of 3, so I chopped off the outer pair of each group with a hammer and sharp chisel (dead easy). The remaining clips I prized open and they were a great help when I reassembled the tub with the extra screws.

You have to be careful with the Bosch water seal, to tap it in just flush with the top of the bearings tube. It is easy to push it in too far and it then rubs on the front bearing (unlike the Hotpoint ones, which are better designed)

I must say it is a lot easier with two of you getting the tub in and out.
