ParticipantNew poster on this forum – hope it works!
We have a DI414 which is playing up. The ‘official’ Capel repair company has been all but useless, but have told us that the motherboard needs replacing. This is the problem:
The machine performs part-washes and then starts bleeping. The green LED flashes in groups of 4. Press and hold the ‘start’ button until it bleeps and it continues with the cycle for a few minutes and the same thing happens again, ad infinitum! The result is almost clean dishes – worth doing but only just (better then by hand!!!)
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks

It’s a Whirlpool with a badge on the front. Four flashes is no drain detected in the time allowed. This does not neccessarily mean that it hasn’t drained, just that the machine doesn’t know it.
If there is water left in your appliance, you have a blockage or the drain pump has failed. If it’s empty, you need to look at the water level indivator. This is the black grid in the sump under the filters at the 3 o’clock position. It has a bad habit of filling up with congealed fat deposits and sticking in the full position. Plenty of hot water and scrubbing with an old toothbrush may clear it. If not, it can be removed from underneath – it’s a twist fit. There is a microswitch on the back – the spring in the switch can fail or go “soft” and then not reset. If this is the case, you need THIS FELLOW.
Power off before working on the appliance.

Ah ha! Now that would make sense, because on occasions, when we first switch it on, it tries to drain for ages and we need to re-start it. I’ll try that today and let you know how I get on.
Many thanks

So far so good. Ran it through 1 cycle, and it bleeped only when it had finished! I’ll keep you informed.

Result! Dishwasher working very nicely now. Many thanks for the advice, Penguin. Moral of the story: don’t trust a company that sends a boy round to do a man’s job!

Psst! Rinse the heavy deposits off stuff first, then there won’t be all that fat to clog the grid.
