A post from a member of the public has just got me thinking.

What is the situation with regards to dual fuel caravan fridges when there is a problem on the gas side?

I used to have a ‘van’ years ago and the fridge would run of propane, butane, 240 volt mains or 12 volt battery power.

Does this come under gas safe regs. ❓

Yes,did them for countless years when working for Electrolux but stopped when self employed when the corgi regs came in.
Think you have to do full gas course thenan LPG add on.
Have fended off numerous requests ever since.
Bit of a grey area but better safe than sorry IMO.
I had one gut who rang me and said no because of the regs,he then turned up with his caravan, saying I pay cash no one will know, sorry I will, clear off.
I dumped countless jets and burners to ensure I didn’t weaken under pressure, 🙂 gas pressure .

I did get one or two call outs to these things when I worked for Hotpoint, they made quite a large caravan fridge although I suspect it may have been bought in, possibly from Lux. I think it went under the Morphy Richards name at the time.

The only problem I had was that most of them were in travelling fairground caravans, too big for most tourers. By the time I had arranged parts they had moved to the other end of the country, a real PITA most of the time. 😥

Yes remember them,I used to get quite a few “travellers” with the smart vans.Used to attend caraven rallies for the company, nice earner, tips were excellent.Didn’t usually charge them as it was a goodwill service so they gave great tips 🙂
