Carbon dust deposits on PCB/Modules? – WD440P

Hotpoint WD440P – 39154166

Customer complains that intermittenly the machine will get stuck on the distributing spin section. ie, after rinsing, drum will slowly tumble and never end, not kicking into the higher spin speeds. The machine has done this for hours before the customer switches it off.

Discovered a lot of carbon dust on the module (mark 4). Has anybody expirenced similar faults caused by the dust? Failing that EMW will have another job!

Yes, I carry a little nail brush for cleaning the backs of those boards. Have had a few WMA’s lately with drum action problems caused by carbon build up too.

If by clearing it the problem wasn’t cured then, as you say, it’s a job for EMW.

On the PCB side it’s usually not a problem as the surface and surface components attached are lacquered and therefore insulated. But on the other side surface components, especially eeproms, can suffer the dreaded ‘ionisation effects’. 🙁

hey guys, thanks for the advice.

I re-fitted the PCB after cleaning and asked the customer to report back…. unfortunately it was still faulty… EMW it is!

Seen the LG PCB’s? They lacquer the whole lot in about 5mm of glue!!!

Soldering iron cuts through it nicely though 🙂

They really are a pain though – makes inspecting and testing the board very difficult, which is what I suspect LG want, so you just buy new boards from them. Thankfully see very few LGs around here.

After fitting the re-con board, customer now complains drying cyle is not heating, although original problem has not re-ocurred.
Drying element was O.C. and so was the one shot stat! Grrrr!
