ParticipantI have been using izettle for a couple of years and I find for the convenience and cost it really is a must now (I think they charge about 1.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d})
I take cards, cheques (occasionally) cash and BACS, I find a lot of customers just pay with their phones while you are writing the receiptDecember 17, 2019 at 1:26 pm #415149trotter
ParticipantWe’ve been using Qixpay.com for a good few years now, hand held device similar to the desktop machine, excellent mobile signal – it is a multi sim and people recognise the machine and trust it! I guess not plugging into your phone helps with both the trust element and battery life of your phone.
Paying £25 per month for the terminal which may sound a lot BUT it’s SO convenient. Commission charges are approx 1.5 – 2{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} depending on card, I always say to the customer “I’m able to take cash, bank transfer or debit card” debit card is then normally the method of payment although we do get some credit cards and bank transfers.
I’m often in a poor signal area but our machine normally picks up a signal from one of the networks. It is important that you choose the right mobile terminal for that signal issue, happy to help if anyone needs more info.

ParticipantI’ve experienced absolutely no trust issues with iZettle, customers really like it. These days there are very few connectivity problems with 4G, but if there is no mobile signal, the customer’s wifi is always available as a back up. A one-off charge of £25 for the card reader, no monthly fee, and 1.75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} commission on any card (including American Express). The battery lasts months between charges. The only downside is there is no “customer not present” facility. so it won’t take telephone payments.

ParticipantI use Sumup and have had no problems with it apart from one faulty card reader (screen failure) which they replaced under warranty without hassle.
They do 2 different readers (you buy whichever one you want), one which connects to the internet through the phone and one that standalone unit. They will also do “customer not present” facility but it is an extra that you have to ask for and incurs a slightly higher rate. I have never had any trust issues from anyone when using the little one connected to my phone/tablet.
If using the phone/tablet to take the transaction then you can do itemised invoices but if using the standalone unit then you just enter the amount.Jem

ParticipantIf you want to go for Sumup then let me know and I can send you a referral link which should give you some money off the card reader (up to £30).

ParticipantI’m also with Sumup, so I can also vouch for how good the service is. I’ve also had a couple of faulty readers in my 3 years of being with them, but they send you a new one within a couple of day for free every time. First class and the virtual terminal is greta. Being able to take a payment over the phone is invaluable.

ParticipantI use izettle found it reliable and convenient. The app is easy to use. I have a wifi dongle which I use if signal on 4g is weak on phone it is a different provider than my phone this gives me flexibilty when patchy. – Battery life is good I don’t use it that often – so amazed when I get it out plenty of life. I purchased the reader when it was on an offer. Turn around on payment is quick – there is also a cash function that you can record and send receipt ( this only logs details for your own records so no charges for this service as far as I know) – You can either send customer email or telephone receipt reference number assigned used is your own invoice number so you can easily check it off your and match statements. No need to spend loads on rental machines and per transaction charges if you only need to use it now and then. – Most of my customers pay by bacs straight from their phone. I accept cheques and now online banking allows you to take a photo and process you can cash it straight away, so there is no need to go the bank as often. Having the card reader is another means to collect monies quick and easily after job is completed.;)

ParticipantWe also use Sumup, its the same as Izettle, you pay a one off fee then I think its 1.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on each transaction, been using them for one year now and no issues.

ParticipantBeen using Sumup the last month or so now.
Can’t believe I didn’t do this years ago, customers love it, I get them to type in their email afterwards and it sends them a receipt.
This has to cut down on the dreaded, “can I BACS you later?” crowd.
Now my come back is “BACS isn’t necessary, do you want to do a contactless or pin transaction?” -
