ParticipantHi there,
Sorry to put this out there again, I have seen this on the forums before but can’t find it any where.
Does any one know of a good deal for card machines for WTA members, I have asked for a few quotes now over the last few months but the prices is just outrageous.
But it is coming to a point that I can’t almost carry on any more without one. Every one wants to pay by card these days.
Any help please, it is quite urgent.
Cheers,
Quintin.

I did get a quote from PayPal, not much different to the rest when it comes to price, but I did see a message on one of the forums before that looked like a good deal, but like I said I can’t find it.
Will let you know if I find any thing of interest Andy Jones.
But hopefully some one will know what I am speaking about.

Quickest and probably the easiest these days, especially where you are Quinten as you should have good data service there….

I was using pay leven via my phone 2.75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} interest which i thought was okay but they pay in from a foreign bank, so i was also getting whacked for a chaps payment from my bank every time they paid, i got onto them and they reimbursed the payments as long as i gave them proof, but i have given up as i cannot be bothered with the hassle, thing is it worked a treat everytime i used it.1

Excuse my complete ignorance here but when they say it’s charged at say 2.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is that charged to the cardholder or to the PayPal account holder, if so I assume the interest is added to the customers bill

Card charges come off you Andy, the card company make money that way. 😉
Customer pays what they see, just as you do when you pay by card.

I’ve been looking into getting a card reader, like you say, more and more people are asking for card payments. I haven’t been turned down for a job because of it yet but I think i’d better keep up with the competition.
I’ve had a look at a few different sites for mobile card readers, ones that connect to your mobile phone for a signal and processes it through the bluetooth reader, just like the paypal here one.
The only problem I have with Paypal here and it doesn’t really say much about it in the information but they keep some of your takings for 30 days and then pay you from there, on a rolling system. I can’t remember if its daily or weekly from there but they keep whatever goes through the card reader for 30 days incase of fraud or refunds and then pay you. Take a look at a few reviews on line, i’ve seen quite a lot of negative reviews regarding this one issue.I’ve decided to go for iZettle. All payments received into your account in 3 business days. No holding any of the money and the charges are the same. At the moment the card reader is £49 inc Vat, through a link I have.
I have literally signed up to it today so I can’t give you a detailed insight as to how good it is but will let you know later on if anybody is interested.Nick

There is also Worldpay Zinc, works with IOS or Android and its reliable and comprehensive. Been using it for 7 months now and it suits me fine. No Contract, Quick Payments, Web Access for account, and not too bad on handling charges.

A word or warning regarding Paypal…
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/article … your-money
They can hold 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of every transaction for 180 days cumulatively.
That means that, say you used it for £100 a day then £10 per day for £180 days would be held by Paypal.
So before the funds started to release you’d have £1800 held in Paypal’s coffers and, that’d be there until they decided otherwise.
Not exactly very nice.

ParticipantI know this is a zombie thread but what card payment machines are you guys using now?.
I’m still old school cash or cheque, I’m getting fed up of the “I’ve got no cheque book can I pay by BACS later”, customers.
I’ve been looking at Sumpup that have no contract but charge 1.69{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} per transaction, has anyone here any recommendations or advice

KeymasterIf you’re not doing much volume PayPal, iZettle, Square are all much of a muchness. Easy enough to set up and use.
PayPal has more “recognition” if you will but I don’t know how charges compare.
We looked at it with the WTA to try to get lower charges but unless you can get people to all move as one it’s nigh impossible to get a deal.
