    Re: Card payments

Tried to be on their trial. Didn’t go well.

Also limited, they or the bank make the Visa (IIRC) Debit a pain which is a large number of the payments you’d take more difficult.

The reason being that there are a couple of big players coming online with mobile solutions soon and they’re all backing different ones. As you’d expect.

I’ve been watching this for a while as I’m interested in it as well as it should save the charges for a mobile terminal.

    Hi

Have a look at payleven(https://payleven.co.uk/howto/). Don’t know if you have seen this one yet Ken, but they seem to have all the major cards on board.

This type of technology is a copy of ‘square’ in america. I read about this when it came out and it seems like a great idea for small businesses.

    Re: Card payments

Yeah, Square was the first one I saw as well.

It’s much easier in the US as they don’t use Chip & Pin, just a signature when they can be bothered to check it. And that’s the problem for us here, the vast bulk of cards are Chip & Pin which these systems won’t allow you to take payment from as they can’t be verified.

    Bit of a problem.

Just to add to that woe, the banks and clearing houses want this sorted but they all have to agree a standard which, as yet, they haven’t really and they seem to have several competing systems. Hence, general confusion over what works, what doesn’t and what will a few months down the track.

Which is why I’ve held off on it and am just sitting back waiting for them to sort themselves out before jumping in.

And, just to add to the confusion already out there, Intuit, the company that brought us Quickbooks have come up with their own system. No doubt in a bid to follow the main competition, Sage, into payment gateways…

    http://www.intuit.co.uk/mobile-payment- … /index.jsp

Supposedly Chip & Pin compliant and, again, in a trial format for the now.

Also there’s systems coming online from PayPal, Square and a couple more I know about for the UK and EU.

What one will win out… whatever one Visa decides is best most likely as, so far as Europe is concerned, as that’s the largest share of debit cards apparently. So far as I can see anyway.

And therein lies the problem. If one of them blocks it or makes it a royal PITA to use then whatever one isn’t a PITA will win (probably) making all the rest “also rans” if even useable, likely due to patent restrictions or some such nonsense.
