    Hi Guys

    Brain Picking time!

Are all card readers for Hotpoint/indesit universal for all models with in the range?

What is a Hardware Key MK1 EVO2-LB2000 Serial PC

What is a Hardware Key Adaptor Low End Trade

The reason I ask is I have had 2 w/m this week needing Control Modals. The first Connect Distribution identified a card and reader that where needed. The 2nd all the above options where presented.

I am relatively new to this industry and am hoping my kind hearted colleges can help. 😉

The best help I can give is to direct you to EMW electronics, they will test any suspect PCB’s for just over a fiver, will repair them if required at a big saving on new and also give you a longer guarantee on them than if you buy new. Very speedy turnaround, makes faffing around with cards and readers a pointless and expensive exercise most of the time.

The hardware key is just a test device, it does not programme the modules. It runs a test programm on some machines which can be useful and displays error codes rather than having to rely on reading the flashing lights, probably not worth money unless you do a lot of indesit stuff.
The low end adaptor works with the above hardware key on the “cheaper” end of the market versions without the pcb in the bottom corner (talking about washing machines here) it bascily plugs into the console pcb and provides an adaptor for the hardware key.

The smart card reader is a different thing altogether and is needed to program the blank modules once fitted using the smart card which you need to order along with the module.
The same above mentioned low end adaptor will also work with the smart card reader for the same reason (ensure it is a later evo 2 type though as the older one will not work), and also provides the connection for the fridge freezers with a single, console mounted pcb.

Both devices are in my view a waste of money, EMW all the way without all the hassle involved with Readers, Cards and all that.

I have used a smart card reader quite a lot to programme new boards on washers and dryers. There have been at least 3 versions of the reader, so make sure you get the latest. I have never needed the low end adapter.

Smartcards can only be used once and are not easy to find. Even Indesit are sometimes out of stock, although there’s often stock available for the identical alternative colour model. A few models list half a dozen or more alternative software sets, depending on production specification, so it can be a bit of a minefield to pick the right one.
