    Hiya

Have a tenant with a CDA CI993 which is tripping the RCD. The landlord had a spark round and he says it is the washer/dryer. I went along and it didn’t trip once, so I asked them to keep an eye on it and let me know if it happens, when it happened during the cycle. Get call back two days later saying it is during drying, so I naturally suspect current leakage on drier element. I then get a call the next day to say it tripped one hour after the machine had finished the cycle! I popped back and the tenant said that now it’s tripping everytime it’s switched on, and lo and behold when he switched on the spur above the work-surface yes it tripped the RCD right in front of me. However, I reset the RCD when the machine was on and it stayed on and I couldn’t get it to trip again. Now I have isolated the machine from the circuit for a few days to confirm that it is that causing the tripping. Any advice what could be the cause on the m/c? I have heard they are notorious for this kind of thing, and don’t really want to waste much more of my time on it. Thinking it could be either element or motor? All very expensive. Cheers fellas, and sorry it was a long one!

from your post it seems you have not meggered the element also why not disconnect dryer element for a few days and see if it trip then

on the neg side i think this machine is obsolete so very few parts are available

its also worth noting the following

an RCD trip measures earth leakage from a number of circuits and it the addition of the leakage that trips the unit if it goes above 30mA. so if your machine has a 20mA leakage and another appliance has 10mA then nothing will trip unless they are both on
