ParticipantI have a CDA CW783/LH whose alarm sounds for about 1 minute. The red light comes on steady at the same time. It does this approx every hour. When the alarm starts, the compressor kicks in.
My understanding is that this is a warning that the freezer is too warm. However, I’ve checked the temp with a thermometer and it shows -22 degrees.
I’ve done a serious defrost, 24 hours, but that made no difference.
So the freezer thinks it is too warm, but the true temperature is good and cold. If anyone has any suggestions of things I could check I’d be most grateful. The bleeping is starting to get a bit annoying!
I don’t know if it is related, but the green light is not on at all and I gather it should be on all the time. Could just be a blown bulb but I though I’d mention just in case.
Cheers,

Just a bit of an update on this in case anyone might be able to help…
I tried a second hand replacement control board, but symptoms are still the same. However, I do now have a green light on permanently, so it looks like that was unrelated and just a dead LED.
I’ve monitored the symptoms more closely and here’s what happens:
The red light comes on steady and the compressor starts at the same time.
About 30 seconds later, the alarm starts bleeping.
This happens for about 1 minute.
Then the alarm stops and the red light goes out.
The compressor continues to run for a few minutes after the alarm and red light have stopped.
Once the compressor has stopped, it only ever comes on again when the red light comes on some 40 minutes later. So, it seems the compressor will not start under normal conditions. Only when the freezer thinks it is in an emergency ‘too warm’ situation.
The temp inside seems nice and cold, but the freezer is obviouly not behaving quite as it should.
This is an integrated CDA CW783/LH model freezer.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Owen

It appears to be a normal-ish freezer.
So, you have a thermostat, a compressor and that small board from an electrical standpoint. Not much really.
The temperature should cycle, -22?C is about as cold as it should get, -18?C should be the mean temperature but, you’d have to measure that over time to get a better picture. If it rises much beyond about -15?C for any length of time then I’d be suspect of the compressor. If not then for some reason the alarm is getting an errant signal fro somewhere I’d expect, where I don’t quite get as it’s a mechanical stat in it so far as I can see.
A bit perplexing given the description of the symptoms.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. It’s a strange one, as the freezer certainly isn’t getting too warm. Any time I check the thermometer, I get between -18 and -22 degrees. That’s with the thermometer hanging in mid air rather than in amongst the food. It’s really just an annoyance that the alarm keeps bleeping when it doesn’t need to. I was hoping someone might have been able to suggest an easy fix, but no worries, thanks anyway. I appreciate your time.

When you took the pcb out from the housing, did it appear that the components were wet or stained as if they might have got wet? I have had the insulation fail at the top before now, where ice was forming inside the pcb housing, and causing shorts on the board. Unfortunately, the boards are quite prone to failure generally, anyway

Hi,
No, no sign of any dampness, wetness or staining to the PCB. It looked identical to the replacement. The symptoms were exactly the same with either board. I thought it was worth a gamble to change it, but it didn’t pay off.
