ParticipantHi, one of the suppliers that we deal with, and do send us the odd commercial microwave/combi oven repair job, have suddenly emailed all sub contractors stating that some of the large clients they deal with are asking for the above for the engineers who attend, they state that in the past, “experience gained” was acceptable as a response to the question, but now, apparently not. Sounds like an idle muse from a jobsworth somewhere, I have never heard of its existence, anyone else found the same ? Anyone else know what one is ?
Kindest Regards,
Patrick

Possibly a reference to certification schemes under Part P of the Building regulations? Not that relevant for repairers unless you carry out modifications to electrical installations. Best to ask them to clarify their requirements.

Stratford Girl.
Thank you for that, it struck me as a director of service that doesn’t really understand his job, or its technical ramifications.

hello planb if you get any more requrements, give me a message as we are niceic registered and as far as we know there isnt any legislation or law on appliances repairs so any proof could not be obtained exept if you did voluntry courses.
if you are laying cables ect then thats different.stratfordgirl is right so best check with the guy whos asking and ask what exactly does he need and for why.

You may find this is useful.
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/hsr25.htm
You may find it has to do with insurance requirements, which require businesses to follow the 1974 at work act relating to electrical safety.
If a person using that microwave was to get injured/killed and a visit took place and found that the appliance was the cause, blame needs to be placed onto the right person, that being the one who sourced the repairer and the person/business carrying out the work.
The key is competency, its far easier to stay out of prison if the person doing the work can show a certificate from a microwave repair course or several yrs repairing them for an appliance business withput issues.
If you know a guy who owns a small electrical installation and rewiring business and has a guy with say Part P cert and has only fixed a small number of appliances without any course or recognised cert of competency, you may well need a very good solicitor.
Jamie page 43. Good luck.;-)

i reckon the industry is doomed based on lee8 post.
oh well.what will be will be
i don’t think we well injure or kill anyone with repairs we do.so not that worriedz.
besides all repairs we do are tested so we are happy when we leave appliance its fine.
just like we are when we re wire a house, instal sockets, rcds, replace sockets, run cables through walls ect ect ect.
we have to comply with lots of regs for electrics,so easy hereNovember 7, 2013 at 9:27 pm #404043jamieparrie
