ParticipantDear All
I wonder if anyone can give me some help to replace the Carbon Brushes of above NEFF machine. I have removed motor out the machine, and I can see the brushes via gaps, but not sure how to replace them. Do I need to unscrew the 4 screws and release the cover?
Many thanks,

Firstly you need to mark (scratch mark ideal) the end housings and the central stator so that you are sure to reassemble in the same configuration.
Remove the 4 torx headed screws and gently tap the brush end housing off the end of the armature. Seperate the 3 main components and clean thoroughly ( including the commutator segments with ultra fine emery paper)Replace the brushes once you remove the brush ring and place the spring arms against the brush guide prior to reassembly. Reassemble the stator and end housings and screw the long screws back diagonally ensuring the whole unit aligns correctly. Then you can release the sprung loaded brush guides to place the new carbons correctly against the armature’s commutator.
Sorted!

Hi Martin
Thank you very much for your reply. I am going to follow your suggestion to replace the brushes. I have already bought a pair but not sure if they are the correct ones, but I will dissemble it anyway to find out, if not I will try buy another pair.
Will come back report back.
All the best,

Hi Martin
I have followed your suggestion and open the motor. I found that the brushes were fixed onto the plastic holder which were screwed on the metal end part. So the brushes are not replaceable, unless replace the whole plastic holder. Any suggestion to buy such thing? Many thanks for reading my post.

There are pattern brushes with copper tails available that can be soldered into place but the correct fix is to replace the Carbon Brush Housing and End Frame (part no. 00496876). The latter is a simpler, though more expensive, but greater lasting fix.

Dear Martin
I have taken the plastic brush housing out of the end frame, just unscrew the screws. You are right, the brush and wires were soldered on the housing. I have examine the brushes, the length of one was okay, the another was a little short so that the spring push was out of reach, looks like that is the cause of motor stop working. I don’t have anything to solder the new brush, so what I did was add a 1cm long carbon to assist the spring. After put everything back, my machine now is back to act as before. Many thanks for your help and advise.

Oh dear! If you did that then not one put two things will happen. Firstly the copper tail impregnated in the worn carbon will carve a groove in the commutator segments. Secondly and additional carbon sitting back to back against another will result is dramatic overheating and arcing. So all in all NOT the solution I would recommend at all. 😕

Dear Martin
Thanks for your comment. I’ll redo that to solder them on. Thanks, Zhang -
