ParticipantHi all.
My Zanussi packed up recently and the problem is the bearings. I’m wondering if anyone could advise me on how to get the old bearings out.
I’ve taken off the back cover. I’ve taken off the nut that holds on the pulley wheel and managed to remove the pulley wheel (with a bit of persuasion). There has been a bit of damage to the teeth on the back of the pulley wheel and a lot of the old bearings fell out.
Anyway, I’m wondering how do I remove the rest of the bearing unit. From looking at the replacement kits online, I presume that the bearings are contained in a casing ring and that I should remove this casing. How is this done? It doesn’t seem to want to come out without a struggle – perhaps rusted into place. Is it a case of taking the outer drum unit apart?
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I’ve never been to freaked out by a frowny emoticon before!!!
Care to elaborate, Martin? Am I entering a world of pain or am I getting close to the end?

If the bearing you can see from the back behind the pulley is goosed then your machine is in a very bad way. That is the smaller, rear bearing. There is another much larger bearing at the front of the shaft inside the drum. The alloy tube holding the bearings is moulded into the drum rear half.
A good chance that the main drum shaft is already damaged beyond repair.
A long, time consuming, very expensive repair TBH.

Aahhhh… and here was me wondering where the other bearing was. It’s completely disappeared!!!
So, let’s say I’m a complete masochist, iadom. It sounds like I have to completely dismantle the drum in order to remove the old bearings. Am I right?
The way I look at these things is that it’s broken already – how much more worse can I make it??? 😆

It would be a good idea to strip it down first to find out just how bad the damage is before you try and order any parts.
Have fun.

If we are talking English summers then it may take you a little longer than that. 😥
Jim.
