The bulb in our hotpoint oven has failed. When I removed the “lamp shade” I found a fibre washer which disintegrated in my hands. The UKWG shop says they are no longer made. I presume they were to keep steam out of the fitting. Should I lose sleep about refitting it without the washer, or does anyone know where I can find one? Thanks.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Only problem may be baked-on grease on the threads next time you come to change the bulb.

If you do open roasts or any cooking with a high moisture content I’d advise getting it replaced as I have seen moisture getting in there and shorting the lamp. Doesn’t happen a lot, but it does happen.

Any idea where from? Does it have to be a hotpoint part or does one size fit all?

No, they are generally unique to a range of ovens.

Dave will be able to get you one if you drop him a line on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk
